Lessons Learned from Operation Secure Store℠
Spotlight On the 2018 Firearms Industry Compliance Conference
Operation Secure Store ℠ – Gain insights into this comprehensive program designed to support your efforts in implementing crime prevention and risk mitigation strategies.
Firearms theft from federal firearms licensees is on the rise and the increase is attributed to both robbery and burglary incidents according to data released by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. To make matters worse, the quantity of firearms stolen has increased as thefts become more frequent. Helping Federal Firearms Licensees to secure their businesses, deter criminal activity and be prepared for the aftermath in the event the unfortunate does occur is a top priority for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Orchid Advisors.
Operation Secure Store℠ (OSS) is a comprehensive joint initiative launched by the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to support Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL) with making well-informed security-related decisions that mitigate risk and aid in improving the overall security of their business in an effort to deter criminal activity.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution that is guaranteed to prevent or deter crime. Safeguarding your assets and implementing strategies that enhance your efforts in deterring crime is key to preventing the opportunity for criminals to take advantage of firearms retailers. Operation Secure Store℠ will provide access to information and training that allows retailers to make well-informed security related decisions that are right for them in their efforts to mitigate the risks involved in operating a firearms retail business.
If you’re an FFL, you undoubtedly have questions about your store’s security; How is my FFL at risk for loss such as burglary, theft or robbery? What do I do if my business becomes the victim of a crime? What can I expect from the ATF after a loss? What are other retailers doing to deter and mitigate this threat? How do I start building a security plan? What should be included? Where can I get some help with a security risk assessment? NSSF’s Operation Secure Store℠ (OSS) has been launched to help the firearms industry answer these questions and more, and we’ll provide insights in our session “Lessons Learned from the NSSF / ATF “Operation Secure Store℠”” at the 2018 Firearms Industry Compliance Conference.
