On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the Rhode Island Governor signed 2025-S 0359A.  Per its terms, “This act [defines] various prohibited firearms and would restrict the manufacture, sale, and purchase thereof.”  The act is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026.

As with all recent bans on products protected by the Second Amendment we expect litigation to ensue.  We do not yet know when litigation will be filed, whether it will conclude prior to July 1, 2026, or whether it will result in an injunction taking effect at some time prior to July 1, 2026 after which litigation proceeds.

Did you know you can track all legislation targeting the firearms industry in Orchid eState?  Orchid monitors all firearms legislation nationwide and curates a list for the industry of legislation that will directly impact FFLs.  The software also identifies restricted firearms products across the nation as well as shipping and license restrictions when selling ammunition and shipping it direct to consumer.  Learn more here.
