Founded in 1992, Academy of Personal Protection & Security (APPS) was started by longtime Nashville police officer James “Buford” Tune to offer professional firearms training to security guards and private citizens. When the company was sold, new ownership realized the FFL was offering much more than training services and needed a standalone retail space to better serve local gun owners. Connected, but separate businesses, this new venture would become High Caliber Weaponry & Training.

An instructor at APPS with extensive firearm retail experience, Brandy Parker was brought on to lead operations and sales at High Caliber where one of her first responsibilities was finding a point of sale system. Having previously taken Orchid compliance courses, Parker was familiar with Orchid but was surprised to see information about a new POS while browsing the website.

“I reached out immediately,” said Parker. “Shaun was amazing in walking me through Orchid POS™ features and was upfront about the software’s ongoing development. Pricing was also very competitive compared to quotes I had received from other providers.

Opened in June 2021, High Caliber has already established a loyal customer base thanks to their ‘1930s speakeasy’ vibe and custom AR-15 and GLOCK Build Bar concept. Juggling multiple roles ranging from manager to janitor, Parker appreciates the simple Orchid POS™ navigation and user-friendly interface.

“I can train an employee on Orchid POS™ in 10 minutes,” continued Parker. “Pulling reports are just as easy, and we can track sales and inventory based on set parameters. I love that the whole system is customizable.”

High Caliber expects to expand their operations to include a range facility in the future where they plan to take advantage of membership and loyalty program functionality within Orchid POS™. The FFL also created a custom website using Orchid eCommerce™ where they currently sell various training classes.
