California Law Alert

Various new laws go into effect in California January 1 that will significantly affect FFLs.  Time is winding down for California FFLs to ensure that their security systems meet the requirements of California Penal Code 26806 by the new year.  The revised premises warnings contained in Penal Code Section 26835 must be posted by that date. AB 1621 extended the 1 firearm purchase within 30 days limitation to apply to all firearms, frames, receivers, and firearm precursor parts.

Commencing July 1, 2024, an excise tax of 11% is imposed upon retail firearms and ammunition purchases. There are other provisions that FFLs should be aware of coming in the new year.
