The ATF publishes its Annual Firearms Manufacturing and Exportation Report (AFMER), documenting data for all firearms produced or exported by manufacturers during the previous calendar year. This data is published one year (plus) in arrears. The 2024 AFMER report was released in early May 2026.
Following the recent release of the ATF’s 2024 AFMER Final Report, we have reviewed production data from over 3,900 Manufacturing FFLs to compile a list of the Top 30 largest USA firearm manufacturers of 2024, responsible for 8.4 million of the 9.6 million reported firearms manufactured in the USA (88%). This data excludes firearms manufactured outside the USA and imported into the USA.
In 2024, U.S. firearm production declined by 2% to 9.6 million units, down from 9.8 million units in 2023. Production declined for the third consecutive year following its peak of 13.8 million in 2021, driven by the COVID pandemic and social unrest. 2024 USA production versus 2023 production by major product segment is represented in the following table:

Note: ATF 2024 AFMER data is self-reported by manufacturers and does not include firearms still in possession of FFLs (i.e., produced but not distributed into commerce or exported) as of December 31, 2024. There are instances when manufacturers do not submit AFMER data. In our data tables, any missing submissions are indicated as n/a. Following financial struggles and multiple bankruptcies, the company’s assets were divided and auctioned to various buyers in 2020. RemArms has opened a new facility in LaGrange, GA, to manufacture hunting rifles and shotguns. The Ilion, NY, facility closed in March of 2024. - All type 07 and Type 10 FFLs must submit the ATF Form 5300.11 by April 1 annually. Manufacturers must report the total number of firearms, by product segment, that were manufactured that year and sold or distributed into U.S. commerce. AFMER data is typically posted on the ATF website approximately 15 months in arrears
- Axon Enterprises’ Taser 10 (less-lethal device) manufacturing data is included in the total firearms chart for data integrity, but is excluded from the Top 30 ranking, as this product does not compete with firearms
