Orchid Firearms Technology Consultant

Orchid LLC and its family of companies, including partner firm, FFL Law, have been offering business software, firearms-friendly payments and legal and regulatory services to the shooting sports industry for over a decade. With powerful POS, eCommerce, ERP and Bound Book solutions, as well as expert knowledge of ATF, import/export and state-level regulations, Orchid helps FFLs profitably manufacture, distribute and sell firearms with great efficiency and the utmost compliance.

The Firearms Technology Consultant (FTC) is responsible for assisting customers with the selection, implementation and support of Orchid software products. Customers will include firearm retailers, manufacturers, distributors and ecommerce providers.

Applicants need not have prior working knowledge of Orchid software. However, the employee should have a strong understanding of the shooting sports industry, firearms and FFL requirements. Firearm retail or manufacturing experience is preferred, but not required. Prior experience with any POS, electronic Bound Book or ERP is a strong plus.

Position Responsibilities

Orchid Software Applications
The FTC is expected to become a product expert on various Orchid FFL business and compliance technology, including:

  • Orchid POS™
  • Orchid eCommerce™
  • Orchid eBound™
  • Orchid eStorage™
  • Orchid ERP™
  • Orchid eSerial™

Software Demonstration & Selection

  • Introduce potential and current customers to the Orchid software suite
  • Meet with customers to understand their needs and pain points
  • Provide software demonstrations and explain the difference between software options
  • Introduce customers to Orchid’s complementary ATF and Export compliance services

Implementation & Training

  • Work with Orchid VP of Sales & Marketing/VP of Technology to schedule implementation
  • Develop basic project plans to properly plan implementation steps
  • Standardize and load firearm data, regulated data, customer and vendor data
  • Configure basic application settings and customer hardware
  • Provide customers with detailed training sessions and onboarding success meetings

Product Management

  • Update software product manuals and support materials
  • Test software products prior to new feature releases

Product Account Management & Support

  • Provide proactive account management services by regularly making contact with existing customers to understand their satisfaction level and offer assistance
  • Act as the first responder to customer inquiries regarding technical or functional issues
  • Attempt to recreate and problem-solve customer issues
  • When unsolvable, contact software development team to request deeper analysis
  • Provide a response to customers regarding their issues

Position Details

Position: Full-time
Location: Remote; must currently live in Connecticut, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Tennessee or Colorado
Hours: 8 am – 5 pm, with 1-hour lunch. Actual hours are flexible with approval. Limited time may be requested of the employee during evenings, weekends or vacation if warranted by a time-sensitive event.
Travel Estimate: 15%, primarily for larger client implementations or industry trade shows
PTO/PST: 3 weeks, plus holidays; and Paid Sick Time
Salary: $45,000–55,000 annually

Experience & Qualifications

Experience

  • Shooting sports industry experience required (e.g., retail, manufacturing, software)
  • 3–5 years of relevant technical experience
  • Strong understanding of FFL operations and ATF requirements
  • General knowledge of retail and manufacturing applications
  • Strong customer management skills and ability to develop relationships

Technical/Software

  • Strong understanding of modern computing applications (online or on-premise)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
  • CRM applications (e.g., Zoho)
  • File management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Zoho Workdrive)
